Dragon Theories. Since the Tycosian dragons would have no relevance to actual dragons of this world any information on this page should be regarded only as theories if not complete fiction. Dragon
Classification ---------------------------- Homeland Information Terraset: Terraset is the name we've chosen to refer to our home world as, Terra meaning Earth and Set meaning 2nd, so a literal translation would be Second-Earth. Unsure if that was the actual name of the planet or realm, but that is the name we feel should be used for reference. Tycosa: We believe
that the name Tycosa possibly meant tranquility or paradise, it was
a valley surrounded by a mountain range, it was often covered by a thin
hazy cloud cover, although cloudy the moon and stars where still somewhat
visible in the night sky. The valley contained a large forest, rivers,
waterfalls, a lake, plains and some ancient buildings as well. This
is were Korageth, Veltra and Jafira resided in the past before they're
deaths. The Tycosian Dragons I admit that I really don't know much about dragons, But stated below will be everything that we know of concerning the dragons of Tycosa. Remember not all dragons are the same and Dragons like people are different what applies to some may not apply to others of our kind. Dragons Color's This probably wouldn't apply to all dragons because dragons like people are all different. On Terraset were we existed It seemed that the most common dragon appearance in our region were of the color's black, golden, green, and red, other hybrids existed as well such as shades of gray, blue, turquoise and so on but they were often rare. The color shades of the dragons had nothing to do with their personality and instead were only evolutionary adaptations to common environments, although some color varieties may have had different sizes, for example dragons with shades of yellow may have at times been a bit larger then others. The color varieties and appearances of dragons as mentioned above were mainly an adaptation to the dragons environment. Dragons in shades of black, (like Korageth) usually hunted at night -dragons in shades of green (Like Jafira) often resided near forested or grassy areas- dragons in shades of yellow or orange (like Veltra) commonly strived near mountainous area's. These were just the more common habits, in reality the dragons color often did not affect they're preferred dwelling place or habits. Further Details: Red/bronze Shade = These dragons often lived near mountainous areas they were like many others of our kind, average sized and often nomadic. Yellow/Gold Shades = These dragons often lived near mountains The yellow dragons were a lighter shade of the gold, the average size for both of these were a little above the average, and as an adaptation often had wider wingspans when compared to others of their kind. Greens = The green dragons were quite common they often lived near wilderness regions and seldom flew except to hunt, they often attempted to avoid confrontations by laying flat and blending in with surrounding foliage. Some greens in the Tycosa region appeared with patterns on their scales and few may have had a form of venom. Though the venom concept is only a theory at this time, we are uncertain. Blacks = Dragons in shades of black were often known to live near the tops of mountains and hunt usually at night when they would be obscured to threats. They were of average size and very skilled hunters. Silvers/hybrids = Silvers were in fact a hybrid from black and other color shades, they sometimes appeared in different size variations and they among other assorted color mixtures such as bluish and white shades were rare to our understanding. Scales/Skin We feel that the types of skin, scales or hyde slightly depended on the dragons shade and environment though the most common from what we can see was scales, some may have had smaller scales similar to hyde though we are certain that few dragon's appeared to have anything similar to fur or feathers. The common trend was often a dragon with large thick scales weaker near the belly. (Traditional Western) Breath Weapon We never used breath weapons to our recollection, we don't believe any fellow dragons we had contact with could do such either, it is possible that some had venom, but otherwise we don't feel that breath weapons were a common adaptation regarding our kind. No burning stuff for us it seems. Dragon Communication It is to our understanding that most of the dragon's communicated through complex methods of movements, actions, sounds, and motions. Spoken language was possible but very difficult requiring years of training, few mastered the power to speak a language. It is also believed that communication was also mastered on mild telepathic levels concerning emotions, deep thoughts, and empathy between follow dragons and other creatures. Dragon's Wings With extremely rare exceptions the dragons of Terraset all had wings, our wings seemed to be built primarily for gliding and not for rapid flapping, the bones were light much like that of a birds and were separate from our forearms. they grew from around our shoulder blades and could be folded to the side while moving quickly on the ground, the wings would sometimes open involuntarily. Our wings appeared bat like with a thin membrane
connected to the body. If damaged it could be permanent as our wings
were very difficult to heal, In battle they were often protected. While
flying our wings were opened like a kite or glider riding on thermals
and flapped only to gain altitude or speed. We preferred to take off
from a high cliff or ledge formation as ground take off's were often
extremely difficult and required a large sum of strength. While flying
we steered by leaning towards the direction we wanted to go and often
used our tails as a router. A Dragons Tail Obviously all the dragons had tails usually their tails were about the length of their bodies some had longer tails very seldom were they short. Our tails were often used in flight but were primarily used while on the ground to provided balance. We could also stand upright for a short period while balancing on our hind legs and tail this could allow us to appear larger then we actually were and could be used as intimidation to a possible threat or allow us to reach higher. The dragons tails usually ended with a spade formation, others commonly ended like that of an average lizard. There is a mild possibility that some may have had a furred or feathered patch at the tip of their tail. Dragon's Size Size: The size of our kind is difficult to describe as we at the time did not necessarily worry about it, and currently now do not know the exact amount of feet, since we would prefer to avoid embarrassment by accidentally stating numbers which may be of immense size nowhere near our original proportions (again..) We will instead play this safe and state that the dragons of Terraset/Tycosa were of average dragon size. In that sense not of any enormous size or length. Simply common, uncertain how else to explain that. Body length was quite long from tail to snout, height was average. Exact footage is unavailable at this time. Species and Types knowledge of other dragons from our world.
Dragon's Senses Most of our eyes functioned fairly well, they were telescopic similar to that of an eagle our eyes often saw in color though not entirely the same as humans due to obvious specie differences. Our eyes also functioned similar to a humans at night. They were great for spotting prey while flying. The dragons of our region had a pretty good sense of smell as well and some tended to taste the air with there tongue much like a snake. Unfortunately the hearing of dragons was of no extreme difference, it tended to match that of humans with few exceptions. Our scales were usually thick and attacks or injuries were seldom felt unless they occurred near our wings or belly. Our sense of taste also functioned well though differently from humans. We could go months without food but something our size would need to feed occasionally for preserves. Lastly many of us had a powerful sixth sense often sensing the presence of danger long before events occur. Features and Appearance It would often times depend upon the color shading and ancestry but mostly among dark shaded dragons we had two horns and a series of spines down our back. The green dragons in our region it seems, usually, but maybe not always, had a mane of reddish brown fur or feathers forming a mane from the top of their head going down there neck accompanied by a series of spines and a set of horns on their head. Most Yellow or orange shaded dragons had neither fur nor spines though they had a series of rigid scales down their back similar to the classic spines appearance, and almost always had larger wing spans then the other dragons. Silver shaded dragons seemed to often be smaller then the other types around that region. Red shaded dragons were often average with no major fine points, lacking of spinal barbs, but still boasting horns, other rarer shades such as turquoise or blue were often hybrids with appearances determined by their individual ancestry. Dragon's Diet We among other dragons were very large and had to hunt every few weeks, the dragons in our region were omnivores capable of eating both plants and meat they preferred meat more but when prey was scarce they would not turn away from eating plant life, most of the carnivorous ones often refused to kill sentient beings for food and would rather hunt for wildlife or find edible plants. so you'd have nothing to worry about...Hehe.. Hunting Style Like it or not, many dragons were carnivorous and would often hunt usually from the skies they would leisurely fly around until spotting prey and would then dive down upon it depending on the preys size, they would sink there claws into the flesh and make a deathblow similar to a bird of prey's style. If conditions were more difficult they would calculate a more suitable attack to take down their prey, they seldom ever had confrontations with creatures more then half their size. Dragon's Habitats From what we can best recall we were very adaptable creatures which could live almost anywhere, none of us were confined to any special habitat but often chose to live in our own preferred or selected landscape or territory. Some preferred mountain tops were they blended in with the rocks and could take flight easier. The green dragons were common and often came in many different shades some with elaborate patterns on there scales they often lived in the forests and plains. The dark shaded dragons often liked to live near high places as well were they could see their surroundings easier and sleep through the day without disturbances. Ageing/life span The dragons usually reached their full size after about seven to eight years (Earth time?) but had long life spans usually reaching physical adulthood around the age of thirty (Earth Time) they were capable of living up to and over two hundred years of age and possibly much older if you excluded deaths from battles and disease. They were often considered mature after the equal to fifty years. (Earth time) The full life span excluding deaths from disease or battle is unknown to us Unfortunately. Dragon Society From what we can best see, the dragons were social creatures but because of their large size and diet they could seldom gather in groups of more then six or seven, there were some exceptions like the Sycala clan which had almost thirty. That was probably very uncommon though, The dragon groups would often be forced to break up and separate after food became scarce. Though some dragon families may have stayed together for many years. We feel however that most of the dragons (myself included) chose to be nomadic wonderers, it meant more food for them and less responsibility. Thinking back to what I feel I know from the clans, it would seem that in the dragon groups, often depending upon social factors, the group would often behave similar to a wolf pack where the strongest or wisest dragon would be the leader and often act to protect his or her companions. Clans/Family The dragons of Terraset often came in two groups, the nomadic, and the clan dragons, members of both types often mated for life and usually upon finding a mate would locate to a secure cave or area (Lair) and choose to remain there as long as conditions allowed. There they would care for any hatchlings until they were able to leave on their own, possibly in areas were there may have been more prey and food some families would remain and merge with others to form a clan, this would usually only last until the food became scarce and they were once again forced to separate. (Side note: although it is stated that most of the dragons preferred to mate for life, that may not have always meant that they chose to remain together but rather may have chosen to return annually, and if one should die the survivor may have chosen to seek a replacement.) As mentioned earlier it is our belief (we were nomadic) that within the clans the largest or wisest dragons were usually elected as the elders to lead the clan until the time came to leave. probably within the families leadership was maintained by the eldest dragon. Dragon's Beliefs We in our existence in the Tycosa region were nomadic, as a result none of us had very much direct contact with others of our kind, our knowledge of our species culture comes from combined information and hearsay, that said this is possibly in a false context or lacking of vital points. Each being exists with a force of energy, each being with this energy is interconnected to all other beings existing through this force. Belief System: Life-existence This spiritual energy interconnected as it is, is necessary for balance, each loss of life and each new life born affects the energy and the balance of our world. Life therefore is sacred, one must continue existence and life must die as result, it is therefore necessary to only eat when needed and to protect life from beings who would cause unjust harm so as to not overly upset the balance beyond what is natural. When the energy of the world is in continual balance, it is possible to tap into this force and achieve tasks on spiritual and physical levels, these methods of energy manipulation are to be used by us and others of sentient realization to enhance prosperity and the natural growth of life. Belief System: Family-society Within our race none are more important then the eldest dragons, for as each generation of dragon will age and adapt it will be the elders task to train the young ones in means of proper survival, it is necessary that each cell within the group be capable of self independence and be willing to assist others of our kind when aid is needed so as to continue the prosperity of our race. As the protection of the balance of life is a necessity it should come to pass that we as a race should not gather in mass for great periods but remain as separate entities in separate lands, so that no life shall face loss to feed to many of one other. Belief System: Death - reincarnation As each being of our realm is born of a sacred energy, their consciousness resides within this energy, it is therefore believed that the death of a being, is only the death of the body, the conscious energy lives on, traveling along the currents of the planet and bridges to other worlds, the conscious energy is rejuvenated before being reborn to another form to repeat the process of life
